>The Chevron Championship, the LPGA Tour’s first major of each season, is moving. The tournament played each April will switch in 2026 from The Club at Carlton Woods outside Houston across the city to Memorial Park Golf Course, where the PGA Tour holds its Texas Children’s Houston Open in March.
Moving it from the middle of nowhere regarding major spectator hotspots or infrastructure so far played on a residential developmental course that doesn’t play great or provides a good patron experience or pulls fans should be a good move.

LPGA seems to be making good moved in this way. Good, get the events on courses that actually are accessible to more fans and players. I went to the Sahalee event last year and it was packed on a Sat cause it was very host friendly with parking and shuttles.

I know quite a few members at Carlton Woods, play there often, and know a fair bit of the staff. This was the right move. Carlton Woods is much harder to access than Memorial, and the LPGA’s setup trivialized what should be a tougher tournament, which diluted the overall experience. Combine that with the downtime on the course, and most of the membership is pretty happy the LPGA pulled out early.
Overall, it’s a better spot for fans to actually experience the tournament, and I’m glad they made the move.
